In the manner of Tilliard, the shaped rectangular back with arched crestrail centering a foliate cartouche, the padded back, arms and seat covered in beige patterned silk with metallic threads within a foliate and rocaille-carved frame, on cabriole legs headed by foliate clasps and toupie feet with scrolled toes, with stencilled number 202

Lot Essay

The distinct sculptural carving of this fauteuil is similar to chairs produced by the celebrated 18th century menuisier Jean-Baptiste I. Tilliard. The central heart-shaped cartouche at the seatrail is particularly reminiscent of his work, and a closely related example is illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Franais du XVIIIe Sicle, Paris, 1989, p. 834, fig. c.
