A FLEMISH MYTHOLIGICAL TAPESTRY
Mid-16th Century
Woven in wools and silks, possibly depicting and allegory of youth choosing the path of Virtue, with a young man in armour flanked to the left by Diana and to the right by an elder, to the left with satyrs surrounding the youth and to the right the edler approaching a naked youth being led to Cerberus and fire by the devil, within an extensive wooded landscape with numerous mythological beasts, within a fruiting border with strapwork and masks and within a later brown outer slip, the border to the bottom lacking, limited reweaving and patching
7 ft. 11½ in. x 10 ft. 5½ in. (243 cm. x 319 cm.)
