A VENETIAN POLYCHROME-DECORATED AND PARCEL-GILT TOILET-MIRROR
The later shaped rectangular plate in a moulded frame decorated with scrolling foliage interpersed with birds, the top with a Chinoiserie scene with a pair of figures and with a pierced asymmetrical cresting, on shaped feet, restorations and refreshments to the decoration, with remains of two paper labels to the reverse, one inscribed in pencil 'A 1621', previously but probably not originally with hinged support

Lot Essay

A closely related toilet mirror is in the collection of Mr. Tullio Silva (G. Morazzoni, Il Mobile Veneziano del '700, Milano, 1958, plate CDLVIIa), and a further similar mirror is illustrated in S. Roche, Mirrors, Paris, 1956, fig. 234. Five similar toilet mirrors from the collection of Paulette Goddard were sold at Sotheby's New York, 29 September 1990, lots 302-306.
