The rectangular moulded and dentilled frieze above two panelled frieze-drawers with figureheads centred by a conceiled central drawer with carvings of a youth, above a fall-front enclosing a central arched door with figures to the angles, enclosing three panelled drawers and a concealed compartment, flanked by two moulded removable pilasters, one conceiling two drawers, flanked by five panelled drawers and with two further arched doors, all flanked by detached carved figures, on a later stand with waved apron and figureheads on cabriole legs, drawers re-lined, restorations

Lot Essay

A 16th 17th Century Bambocci secretaire cabinet with very similar secretaire, also incorporating figure-heads such as on the frieze of this cabinet, is in the Museo Nazionale del Bargello, Florence (S. Colombo, L'Arte del Legno e del Mobile in Italia, Turin, 1981, figs. 269-270).
