The top fitted with a slide above a fall front enclosing pigeon holes and three drawers, the frieze fitted with three drawers, on X-frame supports joined by a ring-turned stretcher, with later bun feet, bearing a printed paper label Guarducci Firenze Via Maggio N.10

Lot Essay

This lot is accompanied by a letter from the then resident Canon Eaton of St. Peter's Vicarage, Leicester, detailing the purchase of the desk in Florence in 1870 by the parents of the Late Bishop of Leicester and Sub-dean of Salisbury.
The desk was subsequently sold to the present owner in 1960.
