Lot Essay

Dr. Leopold Reidemeister, born in 1899, was General Director of the Museums in Cologne between 1945 and 1957. He later became the Director of the National Galerie, Berlin, before founding the prestigious Brckemuseum in 1967 together with Erich Heckel and Karl Schmidt-Rottluff. Already as a student in Berlin Reidemeister had a close contact with the contemporary artists of the time, especially with Ludwig Meidner.
