AN EXCEPTIONAL SELECTION OF THE WINES OF ZIND-HHUMBRECHT
Property of an Alsace Connoisseur
All wines purchased upon initial release and stored in a professional temperature controlled facility
The wonders of great Alsace wines are the concentrated mouthfuls of fragrant, aromatic flavours, derived from the ripeness of the grapes which the long dry summers in Alsace give. This, above all makes these wines perfect accompaniments to rich flavorsome food.
The wines from Léonard Humbrecht and his Master of Wine son Olivier are the epitome of the richness of the region, both in concentration of flavour and infinite variety of terroir.
There are many reasons for the stunning equality of Domaine Zind-Humbrecht's wines, but first must be the superb situation of the 30 hectares of vineyards, some of the most distinguished sites in the region, in Thann, Turkheim and Wintzenheim.
Léonard, a quiet, slightly shy man, cultivates the estate, which has a major holding of unique superior sites, or Grand Cru, with a passion for allowing the site to express its individual qualities. This can only be done with very low yields, and he believes 35 hectolitres is the maximum- half the current limit for the region.
Olivier is just as committed to low yields and the expression of individual terroir as his father, and being responsible primarily for the winemaking, means that the style of winemaking remains subservient to the expression of terroir.
I cannot fail to be excited by the quality and variety of these truly great wines, which for those who love concentration and richness, are some of the finest from the region. --Christopher Burr, M.W.
