With its compass drawn flowers and free-hand decoration, this trinket trunk is part of a known group of boxes from Lancaster County. A few examples are lined with Lancaster County newspapers dating from 1812 to 1826. A slide lid box in the collection of Winterthur Museum is inscribed with pencil, "February 12, 1814, Lancaster Jonas H..." (Barons, et. al., The Folk Tradition of Early Arts and Crafts of Susquehanna Valley, (New York, 1981), p.151).
