Lot Essay

During the summer of 1939 Margaret de Patta, a jewelry designer, met Laszlo Moholy-Nagy. From him she learned the technique of creating photograms and then went on to study with him both at the Mills College Summer School the following year and at the Institute of Design, Chicago from 1940-41. Her photograms characteristically reflect the radical design sense she brought to jewelry execution from the 1930s until her death in 1964. Her photographic production was limited so works by her are considered rare.
