Lot Essay

Conceived in 1941 and cast circa 1970 in a numbered edition of 8 with 4 artist's proof by Clementi. A similiar model is illustrated in Roger Gain, Evariste Jonchere, 1991, p.95.

In contrast to the Vietnamese of the Kinh region who was always wary of them, the French was very much fascinated by the different people from the mountain who was of a varied origin and was displaying a rich primitive culture.
