Enamelled with a pair of phoenix and peony panels against a ground with further peony sprigs, moulded on the shoulder with felines and on the neck with a pair of Buddhistic lions, enamel flakes

The baluster-shaped vase would probably have been placed on the ancestral altar-table alongside other religious vessels like candlestands, joss-stick holders and offering dishes. Flowers would have been inserted into the vases, usually displayed as a pair, as part of the offerings to the ancestral spirits
