Lot Essay

This Safavid Qur'an has been sympathetically restored in late Qajar times. A number of folios have been replaced, the pages remargined, illuminated marginal medallions added and the opening illuminated bifolios extended into the new margins. In addition the final three folios have been added. The colophon records this restoration work at the instance of Sarim ad-Dawla, one of the sons of Zel-i Sultan.
