A LARGE ENGRAVED AND DAMASCENED KHYBER KNIFE
PERSIA OR NORTH WEST INDIA, SIGNED AND DATED AH 1285 (1868-9 AD)
The gently inward-curved single-edged watered steel blade with flat spine along the outer edge, finely engraved above on each side with a cartouche containing rose flowers, one side also with a gold-inlaid signature 'amal-e Sufi 'abd al-Latif 1285', the spine also delicately engraved with a band of meandering roses, the horn-faced grip with medial steel band engraved with naskh inscription cartouches divided by applied gold floral motifs, further similar floral stems at the juncture with the blade, pierced attachment loop above, the black leather-covered wooden scabbard with steel mounts delicately engraved with scrolling floral borders
