The associated slightly recurved boldly watered double-edged blade with medial ride on each side, the jade hilt with scrolled quillon block carved on each side with a lotus, grip shaped for the fingers and with realistically carved horse-head pommel, the details including flared nostrils, eyes and flowing mane finely executed, in red velvet-covered wooden scabbard with associated jade locket and chape, the former carved with flowers, slight damage to ears
15½in. (39.4cm.) long

Lot Essay

The blade is made from a magnificent watered steel sword blade which presumably broke and was cut down for the purpose. The hilt is typical of the reign of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.
