CENTRAL PERSIA, 1262-3 AD
Each eight-pointed star tile painted in golden brown lustre with a central design of four split palmettes in reserve bisected by further split palmettes composed of lustre spirals, the plain white borders with a naskh lustre inscription, the reverse of one tile with the impression from the design of the tile below it in the kiln, each tile with one point restored

Lot Essay

The inscriptions are Qur'anic; one tile has the last three suras of the Qur'an (cdii, cdiii, and cdiv)
