The plain shaded grass-green field with feathery columns rising from a row of tulips supporting the curved ice-blue mihrab arch with tracery ivory vine issuing palmettes and supporting a pendant stylised mosque-lamp, a floral cross-panel above and below, in a pale pink border of floral sprays and leaves between triple ivory floral stripes, a short striped kilim strip at each end, excellent condition
5ft.10in.x 3ft.10in. (178cm. x 117cm.)

Lot Essay

The rug bears the numeral 202 at the top of the arch. From its appearance here and in other silk Tabriz rugs, it would appear that this is the signature of one of the best workshops in Tabriz at this period
