Lot Essay

This folio was published on the occasion of the exhibition of needlework and related art at the Academy of Applied Arts in Haarlem in 1905 during the time in which E.H. von Saher was Director. The exhibition was organized by Elisabeth M. Rogge who also wrote the text for this folio.
The exhibition included needlework, lacework and batikwork applied to fire-screens, cushion covers, children's bonnets etc. Among the artists whose designs were included in the exhibition were Gerrit W. Dijsselhof, Theo Nieuwenhuis, Jac. van den Bosch and Chris Lebeau. A selection of their designs is illustrated, either in black and white or in colour, in this folio.
