Lot Essay

The present work is a typical example of the second period (1901-15) in which the artist's love for the almost monochrome, warm colours is evident. The coast line of the Dead Sea with a view on the Moabit Mountains is reminiscent of Abenddämmerung am Toten Meer from 1881 which was bought by Kaiser Wilhelm I (currently in the National Galerie, Berlin).

Eugen Bracht started Salzkarawane am Toten Meer, which he then called Das Tote Meer, in 1909 and finished the work for unknown reasons only in 1914.
The signature in capitals is typical for the works after 1899.

Sold with a letter of authenticity from Dr. Manfred Großkinsky dated Karlsruhe, am 30.7.1998.
