Leonor Fini was a follower of the Surrealist movement in Paris and London from 1933, and later in New York, Brussels and Zurich. Her first exhibition was in Milan, closely followed by a one-woman show in Paris in 1935. In the 1940s and 50s she produced some notable theatre and ballet designs, including Le Rève de Léonor (1945) for the Ballets des Champs Elysées, Le Palais de Cristal (1947) for L'Opera de Paris, and Les Desmoiselles de la Nuit (1948) for the Ballets de Paris.
