Of German origin, Charles-Guillaume Diehl (1811-circa 1885) moved to Paris in 1840 and established his workshops at 39, rue Saint-Sébastien, where in 1870 there numbered around 600 employees. During the mid-19th Century, Diehl participated in the major international exhibitions, starting with the Great Exhibition in 1851. Amongst his medal-winning display at the Exposition des Arts industriels of 1861, were a number of articles made from thuya. He was awarded the hors-concours at the 1878 Exhibition.
