Other examples of this clock depicting the Rheims cathedral are known, one of which is signed Bavozet, dated circa 1835, now in the collections of the King of Sweden.

Such clocks show the great interest in the mid-19th century towards the middle ages since they are accurate scale models of the cathedral, showing a search for historical truth. Clocks depicting other great churches, such as Nôtre-Dame, in Paris, have also been made by Vaugermé or Bavozet, but are usually unsigned.

A similar Rheims cathedral clock was sold in these rooms 27 February 1997, lot 113.
