We are grateful to Mr. Jan de Maere for the attribution, made on the basis of a photograph. The artist was a pupil of K. de Keunninck II in 1629/30, and his burning townscapes can be mistaken for those of his master. Ergo became master of the Antwerp guild of St. Luke in 1641/2.
