Lot Essay

Active at the end of the fourteenth century, the Master of Sant'Ivo was probably trained in the workshop of Agnolo Gaddi. His work also shows the influence of Lorenzo di Niccolò and Mariotto di Nardo.

We are grateful to Professor Miklòs Boskovits for the attribution. He compares the picture to the Saint Taddeo by the artist in the Museo Bandini, Fiesole (M. Boskovits, Pittura fiorentina alla vigilia del Rinascimento, Florence, 1975, p. 376, illustrated).
