A Capodimonte wine-cistern and cover
The porcelain circa 1750, perhaps decorated at Buen Retiro
Modelled by Giuseppe Gricci, enriched with gilding and painted with trailing vine, satyrs, putti treading grapes and riding goats and peasants picking and carrying grapes in panniers, the cover formed as two seated putti, one holding a bunch of grapes and a silvered drinking glass, the barrel supported either side by two seated putti, each holding grapes, and a central waisted rectangular octagonal support on a rectangular octagonal plinth, resting on four feet formed as recumbent rams and leopards, the front of the barrel pierced and mounted with a gilt-brass tap (restorations, firing cracks and cracks to glaze, wear to enamels, gilding and silvering in places)
