A pair of Paris urn-shaped vases
Circa 1790
Each cylindrical upper part with everted rim painted with continuous pastoral landscapes with figures at leisure on the banks of meandering rivers and with cows before buildings and ruins above a broad gilt band reserved with fruiting hop plants entwined about a branch, the lower section reserved with overlapping stiff leaves, the spreading foot and square plinth richly gilt, the top rim with a broad gilt band (the lower section of one vase restored, partly extending into the band and landscape, the other with internal hairline crack to body, the interior crazed, chip to underside of rim, minute chip to band and minute chips to stem, slight rubbing to gilt plinths and rims)
