Lot Essay

Mention of innovative wares such as pierced vases and other interlocking and revolving vases is made in Tao Ye Tai Shou by Tang Ying. He was appointed as supervisor of the porcelain industry at Jingdezhen early in the reign of Qianlong, and over a number of years between 1728 and 1750, was posted alternately in Beijing and Jiujiang near Jingdezhen. For a further discussion of Tang Ying, see Rose Kerr, Chinese Ceramics, Porcelains of the Qing Dynasty, 1644-1911, pp. 19-28.
