Lot Essay

Compare the present figure with a gilt brass Ming dynasty emaciated Siddhartha, illustrated by von Schroeder, Indo-Tibetan Bronzes, p. 528, no. 150B; and a bronze image in the Warren Cox collection, New York, illustrated by Munsterberg, Chinese Buddhist Bronzes, Hacker, no. 122. The present example realistically portray Sakyamuni in a state of fasting and meditation in the hope of gaining salvation.
