Lot Essay

"Windrush" was designed by Morris and registered in October 1883, "Rose" in December 1883. "Windrush" was originally designed to hang in the drawing room at Kelmscott House for summer 1884. This example appears to date from after 1917 when the design was modified as a surface print for 20th century tastes.
