Probably a marriage quilt. The use of red and white was a traditional combination in both Durham and Northumberland.

A turkey red and white strip quilt reversing to raspberry red and white stripes, quilted with a central roundel containing a vase of flowers within a foliate border, the field with hearts, stylised bees and beehives, the outer borders with waves and linked roundels, with diaper infill, machine stitched at the edge--86 x 96in. (215 x 240cm.), probably early 20th century
