Painted in soft pastel colours with two putti emblematic of Love one holding aloft two laurel wreaths, the other holding a target with heart-shaped bull's eye pierced with two arrows, two billing doves below

Lot Essay

Samuel Alcock is recognized as one of the premier artists working for the Copeland factory. Employed on a freelance basis from 1882-1900, he is known for a distinctive delicate rendition of mythological subjects and classical figures.
