Lot Essay

The quality of craftmanship from the Zwiener ateleirs is well recognized from the few documented pieces on record, all of which are executed in the Louis XV style. It appears that Zwiener did not stamp all of his work exclusively, although some stamped pieces are documented. The sinuous lines, the finely cast mounts and the delicate floral marquetry of this secrtaire are characteristic of Zwiener's oeuvre. A closely related secrtaire by Joseph-Emmanuel Zwiener was sold Christie's New York, 14 September 1995, lot 454.
