Lot Essay

The prototype for this 'Pompeiian' bronze athenienne originally served as an altar brazier in the house of Julio Felix and isa now in the Naples Museum. This model was copied in the late 19th century by Chuirazzi. It features as no.155 in their undated late 19th century catalogue and was manufactured in varying sizes and patinas according to the purchaser requirements.
