Lot Essay

The recording of the original sculpture is in a book by Rubens son Albert on Roman costume published in 1665. Stated there that it was in the collection of the Grand Duke of Tuscany in Florence. By 1688 it was recorded that it formed part of the collection in the Tribuna of the Uffizi where it remains until this day.
