The coat-of-arms can be identified as those of the Mockel family of Westphalia (see J.B. Rietstap, Armorial Fénéral, vol.II, p.233). Johann Mockel was born in Dren, a small town between Aachen and Cologne, where he was to remain for the majority of his life.
