A pine dresser, Scottish, late 19th century
dark-stained and varnished to simulated mahogany, the high back with fret-carved back ledge and galleried shelf above a row of five inlaid drawers with three frieze drawers below and a pair of twin panelled doors flanked by projecting half columns, on plinth with turned feet -- 48½in. (123cm.) wide, 81in. (205cm.) high

Lot Essay

Dressers of this type, which feature a tall base section and a top with a row of small drawers mid-way, were made in large numbers by Lowland Scottish furniture manufacturers during the 19th century. This example is particularly decorative with sycamore inlays on the drawer fronts.
