Lot Essay

The sitter is the artist's third son, Paul. He was born on 6 January 1906 and was educated at Twyford and Balliol College, Oxford, before being called to the Bar in 1929. Rutter (op cit) comments on de Laszlo's reaction to this - "He was delighted when his son Paul was called to the bar and painted a portrait of him in his wig".
