Lot Essay

This is a design for Frederick Ashton's production of 'Don Juan', with music by Richard Strauss and costumes and scenery by Edward Burra. The ballet was first performed at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden by the Sadler's Wells Company (now the Royal Ballet Company) on 25 November 1948.
The principal dancers were Margot Fonteyn, Moira Shearer and Robert Helpmann.
