Maker's mark of Charles-Nicolas Odiot, Paris, 1819-1838
Vase-form, on a spreading circular base with stiff leaf border, the shoulder with further stiff leaves and a band of laurel leaves, the wood scroll handle issuing from stylized leaf joins, the front engraved with armorials and the base later engraved with presentation inscription Given to Pauline Borghese by Napoleon Bonaparte Margaret J. Merle-Smith, marked under base, on foot, and near rim, also stamped ODIOT
