late edo period (19th century), signed minayama [or kaizan] oki and with kao
The kozuka and kogai with shakudo-nanako plate encased in gold fukumi-ji, decorated in shibuichi and copper takazogan and gilt details with wild chrysanthemums and morning-glories; the kozuka with a dragonfly; the shakudo-nanako fuchi-kashira similarly decorated with peonies and butterflies; and a pair of menuki, one of gold formed as a pupa of a cicada, the other as a shakudo cicada, the details of its wings gilt
The menuki height 1.3/8in. (3.4cm.) and 1in. (3.2cm.), thickness 6mm. each, the kogai 8in. (21cm.) (6)

Minayama [or Kaizan] Oki was a student of Otsuki Mitsuoki. He was influenced by earlier Kyoto-school painters including Kishi Ganku (1749/56-1838) and Nagasawa Rosetsu (1743-99).
