A PAIR OF KAGA SCHOOL MENUKI AND A KOZUKA
late edo period (19th century)
Of elongated octagonal iron, decorated in gilt and shibuichi zogan with plants, seppa-dai carved and nakago-ana and a hitsu-ana pierced; the shakudo plate decorated in Kaga-style silver and gold hirazogan, a center band decorated with a grasshopper and a cricket between the oblique bands of kikko (tortoiseshell), ichimatsu (check), hanabishi (lozenge-shaped flower) and ajiro (meander) patterns, the reverse in shibuichi
