Square, the outer borders chased and engraved with acanthus and bead decoration enclosing a band of opalescent oyster enamel painted with foliate and ribbon undulating bands, the central plaque of blue sunburst applied with four rosettes with shaped bud and foliate sprays at intervals, the circular bezel set with river pearls enclosing the enamel clock-face with Roman chapters, gilt scroll hands, the ivory back with scroll strut, marked on rim, back and strut

Lot Essay

The foliate and ribbon border is reminiscent of the design of the Gatchina Palace Egg, given by Nicholas II to his mother, Maria Feodorovna for Easter in 1901, regarded as one of Faberg's best compostions.
