In the George II style, vase-form, on a spreading shaped circular base elaborately cast and chased overall with rocaille, monsters and foliage, the two open side double scroll handles terminating in dog-heads, the stepped domed cover similarly decorated with rocaille, flowers, and vacant cartouches, surmounted by a pointed foliate and fruit cluster finial, marked on rim and on cover

Lot Essay

This cup and cover is modelled after one made by Lewis Pantin, London, 1744/45. The Pantin cup and cover is illustrated in Rococo Art and Design in Hogarth's England, The Victoria and Albert Museum, 1984, cat. entry G22, p. 116. It is currently in the collection of the National Trust, Anglesey Abbey, England.
