Maker's mark of Benjamin Smith II, London, 1825 and 1829
Each on a triangular base on three acanthus and shell scroll feet, with a band of guilloche on a matted ground, engraved on one side with three crests under a baron's coronet below a band of acanthus leaves, the stem formed as fully modelled putti flanking a Bacchic panther and supporting a circular basket with stiff leaf calyx and basketweave sides applied with a band of trailing grapevine, the everted rim with an ovolo and dart band, marked on bases, also marked on putti, panthers, and baskets, with inventory numbers 2 and 3 engraved in baskets

The crests are those of the Barons Rothschild.

A pair of identical dessert stands apparently from the same service, although marked by Paul Storr in 1820, are engraved with the same crests and coronets. They were sold at Sotheby's, New York, October 12, 1990, lot 231.
