Oblong cylindrical, the body applied with mid-bands at each end and engraved with geometric designs, the cover engraved with a rosette, the underside with initials A*H, fitted with grater, marked on base and on grater with maker's mark only

Lot Essay

Although unrecorded in Jackson's Silver and Gold Marks and Grimwade's London Goldsmiths, the maker's mark TK has been found on several early nutmeg graters. According to Elizabeth B. Miles, this mark has been identified by Mrs. G. E.P. How as that of London goldsmith Thomas Kedder.
