PRESENTATION COPY of one of three offprint issues of one of Ampre's important articles on electromagnetism, a "consecutive account of electrodynamic phenomena beginning with the mutual repulsion of the elements of a rectilinear current" (Wheeler Gift). The article also appeared, with a few minor textual variants, on pp. 325-344 of Ampre's 1822 Recueil d'observations lectro-dynamiques (see preceding lot). The two other known issues of the offprint have different paginations, and one includes an addition to the text. Wheeler Gift Catalogue 796 (citing the Journal de Physique 96); Norman 46.
