FIRST EDITION, mixed set (without Supplement volume), CONTAINING DARWIN'S FIRST APPEARANCE IN PRINT. In the Appendix on p. 200 of Vol. II of the Haustellata (published 1 June 1829) Darwin records the occurrence of the common noctuid moth (Graphiphora plecta): "Page 136. Graphiphora plecta. 'Cambridge.'--C. Darwin, Esq." While an undergraduate at Cambridge, Darwin had sent records of insects that he had captured to Stephens and some of these were published in Illustrations of British Entomology.
