FIRST EDITION. Nietzsche's first work, in which he described the two contrasting forces in Greek drama, "Dionysian" (the cultural, shown in music and dance) and "Apollonian" (the civilized, shown by reason, formal structure and geometry). This contrast of impulses is also described in Freud's work, although he claimed not to have been influenced by Nietzsche's work. Norman 1596.
