"Thomas was the veritable founder of modern orthopaedics in the British Isles. The conservative methods introduced by him were developed by Sir Robert Jones. Thomas is remembered eponymically by the 'Thomas splint'" (Garrison-Morton). According to Keith, part 8 of the Contributions was itself published in three parts.
