FIRST EDITION of Introductory Lectures on Psychoanalysis, one of Freud's most read works. PRESENTATION COPY to Oskar Pfister, inscribed by Freud at top of bound-in front wrapper: "Herrn Dr. O. Pfister/herzlich d. Verf./27.IX.16." Oskar Pfister (1873-1956), a Protestant minister in Zurich, "was Freud's good friend and correspondent, and a student of the application of psychoanalysis to education [he was known as the 'analysis-pastor']" (Norman). Pfister has annotated this copy throughout; at the back he has bound in a typed index to the work. This is the only presentation copy from Freud to another analyst that Haskell F. Norman knew of.
