[FREUD]. MAJOR, Henry (1889-1948), artist. Two portraits of Sigmund Freud, one signed by the artist ("Major"), and by the subject ("Sigm Freud"). Undated [ca.1929?]. Executed in black crayon or charcoal pencil on recto and verso of a single sheet, 240 x 200 mm (9 3.8 x 7 7.8 in.), double matted, glazed and framed.
On one side, Major executed a simple sketch of the elderly Freud's head, a drawing he may have left unfinished; on the other side is a more finished, chest-length rendering, probably from the identical pose. The more complete drawing is the one signed by artist and subject. Stanford 81; Norman F172.
